Abstract

Penelitian kualitatif fenomenologi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna karir bagi ibu yang bekerja (berkarir). Penelitian ini berusaha melihat makna karir dari sudut pandang ibu sebagai individu dengan berbagai variabel yang melekat dalam diri ibu. Ibu dengan dual-career family mempunyai peran ganda yaitu sebagai ibu dan sebagai pekerja, karena itu dengan mengetahu makna karir bagi ibu yang bekerja (berkarir) akan membantu memahami apa yang membuat ibu tetap melakukan peran ganda tersebut meskipun membawa mereka dalam dilema antara kepentingan keluarga dan kepentingan karir. Penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara yang mendalam untuk mengumpulkan data dari 12 orang responden. Pengumpulan responden dengan menggunakan teknik snow-ball dan pemilihan responden menggunakan theoretical sampling. Dalam melakukan penelitian kualitatif fenomenologi ada empat proses yang dilalui epoche, phenomenological reduction, imaginative variation, dan synthesis of meaning. Proses analisis dan interpretasi data meliputi braketing, horizonalizing, meaning units untuk mendapatkan deskripsi textural, imaginative variation untuk mendapatkan deskripsi struktural, dan memadukan deskripsi textural dan structural menjadi suatu makna yang universal dan mewakili responden secara keseluruhan. Validitas hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan intersubjective validity. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun ibu yang bekerja (berkarir) menghadapi dilema dalam usahanya untuk menyeimbangkan karir dan keluarga, tetapi bagi ibu sendiri karir merupakan perwujudan dari kebutuhan aktualisasi dirinya untuk memperkuat eksistensinya. Adanya role model, ijin dari suami dan keadaan anak-anak, potensi yang dimiliki dan keinginan untuk meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga, dan adanya kesempatan untuk naik ke jenjang karir yang lebih tinggi di tempat kerjanya membuat ibu yang bekerja (berkarir) merasa perlu untuk bekerja tetapi tetap mempertahankan perannya sebagai ibu (dan istri).
